X accounts of multiple celebrities and influencers on the social media platform were hacked, with attackers promoting various cryptocurrencies and meme tokens.
One notable figure who acknowledged that his account had been compromised was Gigantic-Cassocked-Rebirth (GCR), an anonymous, well-known crypto investor known for contrarian trading.
On May 26, GCR's hacked account, which boasts over 247,900 followers, promoted ORDI and Luna 2.0, causing momentary price increases of 6% and 274%, respectively. The incident appears to be part of a broader attack on Celebrity X accounts. Bitcoin developer Woody Wertheimer noted that GCR had warned of an ongoing attack targeting prominent Twitter accounts. He advised caution, especially as niche celebrities sometimes launch meme coins at times when platform engineers are absent.
American rapper Rich The Kid's X account shared a link to his 2.3 million followers to buy “RICH,” a new token launched on Solana-based meme coin creation tool pump.fun. Within two hours, RICH's market cap reached $90,000. There has been no official confirmation of the hack on Rich The Kid's account, but the post promoting the token has been removed.
At the same time, Caitlyn Jenner's X account promoted “JENNER,” a meme coin that has garnered a market cap of $27.1 million since its launch. Videos featuring Jenner and her manager Sophia Hutchins confirmed that the posts and videos were real and not deepfakes. JENNER Coin was also promoted on Jenner's Instagram account, with Hutchins hosting an X space to reaffirm the authenticity of the promotion.
The JENNER token wallet was the same as the one posted by adult content creator Kazumi, who was allegedly hacked while promoting the coin “ZUMI” on May 20. Other tokens such as RICH, DOLL, and SOULJA are also said to be linked to JENNER, but Jenner's team claimed to be unaware of these connections when questioned by X-Space.
