RED OAK, Iowa – Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced Monroe County's Mustard Seed Company as the Small Business of the Week. Senator Ernst will be honoring small businesses in all 99 Iowa counties during this legislative session.
“Over the past six years, Sarah Hopkins has grown her idea of a high-quality home decor, furniture and gift store into two thriving small businesses.” Ernst said. “She founded the Mustard Seed Company on Albia's Main Street and has continued that excellence with the establishment of The Seedling. She has continued to work with her family and employees and has been a key community leader in growing Albia's economy, and the business has blossomed. We congratulate Sarah Hopkins on her dedicated efforts and look forward to her continued success.”
In 2017, Sarah Hopkins and her husband, Kurt, renovated a former car dealership on Main Street in Albia into Mustard Seed Company, a home décor, furniture and gift store. In 2021, Sarah opened The Seedling, a boutique for women and children, two doors down from Mustard Seed Company. In addition to running the boutique and home décor store, Sarah is actively involved in the Albia community. She serves on the Albia Chamber of Commerce Main Street Promotion Committee, and the Albia Chamber of Commerce Main Street awarded her and her husband the 2022 Excellence in Design and Placemaking Award.
Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst will further recognize small businesses across Iowa in this week’s Small Business Awards.
