LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) – A Laurel family is excitedly awaiting the arrival of quintuplets.
Ashley and Tyler Myers have been married for seven years and already have two daughters together, and now, in just a few weeks, this family of four will become a family of nine.
“When I found four, they were just little granules,” Ashley Myers said, “and it took me two whole weeks to find the fifth.”
Ashley and Tyler Myers are preparing to welcome not one, but five babies into the world.
The baby is due on October 3, but Ashley Myers said doctors expect the baby to arrive as early as August.
“I went to Stork Secret,” Ashley Myers says. “It had been five or six weeks with barely a dot on the screen, but I just wanted to see it,” she says. “At that point, two were solid, a third was a possibility, and a fourth was like, 'No, I don't think that's it.'”
The Myers said the whole thing came as a surprise after they moved into their new home.
“I thought one more would be OK,” Tyler Myers said, “two would be no big deal. They're just babies, you know? Then it just kept on adding up and I got overwhelmed.”
“But that's only a small part of it.”
With confirmation from multiple doctors, the Meyers have been busy assembling cribs, swings and car seats, and doing loads of laundry.
“These were all purchased from my registry and the three swings were purchased from people in the community, my brother,” Ashley Myers said.
Now, the community has come together to fully support the Myers family and make sure they have everything they need, thanks to Angie Ducksworth, owner of Maders & Maders in Seminary.
“Our customers are family, and we want to be personable,” Ducksworth says. “We want to know about your kids, your dog, what's going on in your life.”
Ducksworth said the Meyer's have been shopping there regularly for some time and she felt it was her turn to support them.
“Ashley is a special child,” Ducksworth said. “We don't know anyone else who has quintuplets, so when she came in and said she was having quintuplets, we couldn't believe it.
“We're doing an initiative to get them registered and trying to help raise funds for the things they need because Ashley is going to be in hospital soon and we want to have everything bought and done before she goes in.”
“You all donated cribs so the cribs that you see were donated to us,” Ashley Myers said.
Ducksworth said the response so far has been great.
“We're so grateful for all the donations and support that people have given, even just financially, washing bottles and helping with cleaning and setting up cribs,” Ducksworth said. “We're so blessed.”
Ducksworth said there's an old saying that guides her life and one that the Myers plan to adopt.
“They say it takes a village to raise a child,” Ducksworth said. “It's going to take a big ol' town to raise these five. We need help.”
