Celebrities have reacted to last week's guilty verdict after former US President Donald Trump was found guilty of all 34 felony counts in his hush money trial. On social media, celebrities shared their thoughts on the first criminal conviction of a US president.
Wonder Woman Star Lynda Carter wrote, “34 is now my favorite number,” while Star Trek actor George Takei commented, “They should call him 34, not 45.”
Highlighting the importance of the November election, Democratic stalwart Barbra Streisand wrote, “Convicted felon Donald Trump blames the judge, jury and New York for convicting him on 34 charges. Trump will never accept responsibility for his crimes. Americans should never allow this felon anywhere near the White House again.”
With Trump expected to run for president again this November, author Stephen King seems intent on reminding the public in an X-post that the Republican presidential nominee is a convicted felon.
Cynthia Nixon was The New York Times A headline (“Trump is guilty on all counts”) accompanied by a series of party-face emojis.
Former New York gubernatorial candidate Sex and the City Starr has been a vocal opponent of Trump for years. In 2018, at a Human Rights Campaign gala in New York, Nixon said Trump was “looking to divide and polarize our communities just as he has divided and conquered our country.”
Comedian Kathy Griffin, who was fired by CNN in 2017 after posting a photo of herself holding up a fake severed head of President Trump, responded to a comment that President Trump “finally got in trouble for his gang bashing” by saying, “Thanks for saying that. That was awful and he's awful. Tears of joy.”
Katy Perry responded simply with “LFG,” which stands for “Let's f***ing go.” Wine Country Actress Ana Gasteyer joked, “Looking back, I'm glad I decided not to drink every time I was found guilty, because otherwise I would have barely been able to make dinner.”
Legendary Hollywood actress Bette Midler posted a meme quoting Robert De Niro outside the Manhattan courthouse where closing arguments are taking place in the hush money trial.
“Donald Trump has no place in my city…” the post quotes. “We New Yorkers put up with him when he was just a dirty real estate guy masquerading as a tycoon… But you can't have someone like Trump running the country. It doesn't work. We know it.”
De Niro appeared as a guest on Joe Biden's presidential campaign and called Trump a “tyrant.”
“Now he's promising to use our military to attack Americans,” De Niro said. “That's a tyrant. That's the tyrant he's talking about. Believe me, he means it.”
“When Trump ran for president in 2016, it was like a joke,” he added. “There's no way such an idiot could run for president. We've forgotten the lessons of history. They weren't taken seriously until they became brutal dictators, but then there were other clowns. With Trump, we got a second chance, and now no one is laughing.”
“He doesn't belong in my city. I don't know where he belongs, but he definitely doesn't belong here. We New Yorkers tolerated him when he was just a dirty real estate guy disguised as a tycoon, a second-rate playboy who lied to the tabloids and pretended to be his own spokesman. He called himself what he was to fool the press and inflate his net worth. A clown, but this city is pretty tolerant. We give clowns a place… We tolerate it, it's part of the culture, but not with someone like Trump who ultimately runs the country.”
In response to De Niro's fiery comments, the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation has rescinded his invitation to next week's American Service Awards gala in Washington, D.C., where the 80-year-old actor was scheduled to receive the Service Leadership Award, the National Association of Broadcasters' highest individual honor for philanthropy and public service.
Star Wars Actor Mark Hamill posted a screenshot showing the word “GUILTY” written in red 34 times.
Hamill has also campaigned for Biden and regularly posts about the president on her social media accounts, visiting the White House last month and calling Biden “the most legislatively successful president of my lifetime.”
“Once again, I want to express my gratitude. [to be invited]”It just goes to show how one person can have such a big impact and positivity on our lives. Again, thank you so much,” he said.
