The results of the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections were finally announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on June 4. The NDA alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a majority with 293 seats, while the INDI alliance led by the Indian National Congress Party won 234 seats. Many film stars ran in this general election, and many of them won. Below is a list of film stars who have made it into Parliament and will be running in their constituencies.
Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut shot to political prominence when she ran as the BJP candidate from her hometown of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, where she made a stunning debut and defeated Vikramaditya Singh of the Indian National Congress by a landslide margin of 74,755 votes.
Arun Govil
Revered for his role as Lord Rama in the legendary TV series “Ramayana,” he contested elections from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on the BJP ticket and, after initial setbacks, emerged victorious, defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Sunita Varma by 10,585 votes.
Hema Malini
Hema Malini, the “Dream Girl” of Indian cinema, has demonstrated her political acumen by winning for the third consecutive time from Mathura constituency. Her victory by a staggering margin of 293,407 votes is a testament to her enduring popularity and the affection of the voters.
Shatrughan Sinha
Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, who contested from the Asansol Assembly constituency as a Trinamool Congress candidate, won by a margin of 59,564 votes.
Manoj Tiwari
Not just any Bollywood star, but Bollywood superstar Manoj Tiwari also bagged his third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections in Northeast Delhi, defeating Indian National Congress candidate Kanya Kumar by a massive margin of 137,066 votes.
Ravi Kishan
Ravi Kishan, known for his mesmerising performances, won in Gorakhpur with a margin of 1,03,526 votes, adding another accolade to his illustrious resume.
Suresh Gopi
Suresh Gopi created history by winning the BJP's first seat in Kerala. He defeated CPI-M's Sunilkumar by 74,686 votes. The actor-turned-politician secured 412,338 votes against his rival's 337,652. Gopi was also nominated as Rajya Sabha member from 2016 to 2022.
Other Bengali Actors
The battlefield also spread to the Bengali film industry, with actors like Dev Adhikary, Hiran Chatterjee, Rocket Chatterjee, Rachana Bannerjee, June Maria and Satabdi Roy making their debut on the political stage.
