ATLANTA — Antara, a Mercer University graduate Singh has been selected as the Business School’s 2024 International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Westin Scholar.
With a growing demand for talented privacy and data protection professionals, the annual Westin Scholar Awards were established by the International Association of Privacy Professionals to support students who are seen as future leaders in the field of privacy and data protection.
Singh was presented with the award by Jordan “Jody” Blanke, Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, in recognition of his outstanding performance in Blanke's course, “Legal and Ethical Issues Impacting Big Data.” Singh graduates with a Master of Science in Business Analytics in December 2023.
“Antara's work has been exceptional,” said Blanke. “She is very deserving of this award, and I look forward to her continuing interest in privacy law and privacy policy.”
Singh is the third Business School student to receive this international award in the past four years. Master of Accountancy graduate Fred Walker is the first Mercer student to receive the award in the inaugural 2021 class.
“The privacy industry is growing rapidly and constantly evolving,” said IAPP President and CEO J. Trevor Hughes. “We created this award to help keep the privacy profession top of mind for students as they explore future career opportunities.”
A native of Hyderabad, India, Mr. Singh earned a Bachelor of Commerce from Osmania University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Chartered Accountancy from Amity University. Mr. Singh worked for Deloitte for several years and earned his CPA designation.
“Growing up in a home where education was always a top priority, I witnessed my parents' unwavering dedication to giving me the best opportunities,” said Singh. “My family instilled in me the importance of being independent and self-reliant — values that shaped who I am today.” Singh added that Mercer University “was a key part of my education, providing a supportive place to learn and pursue my interests.”
