High school prom is either one of the happiest or worst memories, but it's one that most people, including celebrities, will never forget.
Attending prom is the most important event in a high school student's life. Getting ready for this big night requires a lot of time and preparation: finding a date, renting a limousine, and decking out in a designer dress. And after all that effort, prom is supposed to be a memorable night… but it doesn't always go as expected. Dancing the night away with all your classmates is fun, but even celebrities have mixed feelings about this annual event. For some, it was a fairytale moment, but for others, it left a lot to be desired.

1. Selena Gomez

“We kept hearing dance music so we looked into the ball and saw they were having a prom! We ran up the stairs and called Demi, then we went onto the ball's dance floor and just started dancing,” she told Seventeen magazine. “After we sang a few songs, people started noticing us. I was scared we'd get in trouble, but all the students let us dance with them. Even the principal came and started dancing with us!”
2. Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera Christina was already a teen pop star when she attended her hometown high school prom and, despite being homeschooled while working on the album, returned to Pennsylvania where a friend set her up on a blind date.
“I wasn't planning on going because I knew I would be treated a little differently, but I ended up calling my friend Marcie and being like, 'Let's have some fun with this. Set me up with a really cute blind date.' But then my friend who wanted to go with me got hurt, so I ended up having two dates to prom!” Christina told EW at the time.
She added, “I was closer to guys than girls. Only two girls ever talked to me. I found out later that they told their boyfriends, 'If you talk to her, I'll kill you.' High school is always hard.”

3. Shay Mitchell
Shay Mitchell In high school, she had a long-term boyfriend, but they broke up right before prom. Although she no longer had a date, she decided to go to the big event with her friends. She also decided to do everything on a budget, splurging only on shoes. She had her mom do her hair, which almost failed, but ultimately worked out.
“I broke up with my boyfriend before prom and hadn't met anyone I wanted to go with, so I went with my friends. I took a lot of pictures with my friends!,” she told Seventeen magazine. “My dress was like $175 and I went through my mom's closet for accessories. I bought these beautiful crystal shoes. You have to buy something exciting. They don't have to be expensive, but I really felt like a princess when I put them on!”
4. Taylor Swift

“It was literally one of the best nights of my life!” Taylor told People magazine shortly afterwards, adding, “It felt like I was in high school again — in a good way, no drama, no mean people. It was amazing!”
5. Dove Cameron

“Even before I was on the Disney Channel, I went to prom with another Disney kid. Matt Timmons went to my high school and we met through a mutual friend. He's the funniest guy alive!” Dove told Seventeen magazine.
She continued, “I'm crazy about Starbucks, so he wrote his prom proposal on a Starbucks cup and had someone in my class bring it to me, like, 'Starbucks for Dove?' We ended up going to prom together, which was really fun. I love Matt, and he's a great dancer. Disney kids find each other.”

High School days, Lance Bass We were dating Boy Meets World Star Daniel Fishel The two ended up going to prom together, and looking back on the experience, Lance says he didn't have a good time because the other girls were “jealous and mean” and treated Danielle badly.
“It was horrible!” Lance told Cosmo Radio. “We were only there for 20 minutes.”
7. Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt He doubled up on his prom experience: One year he was dating a girl from another school, so he went to prom twice. The two of them changed into white tuxedos and attended two proms back-to-back.
“I went to two proms because I was dating a young, beautiful girl from a nearby high school, so if I went to one, I had to go to another,” Brad told W Magazine.
8. Meryl Streep
Meryl Streep Prom costume ruin: When Meryl was 14, she went to her school dance wearing a dress her mother made for her. But halfway through, a strap snapped and there was no way to fix it. She ended up having to hold the dress up with her arms all night.
“I was wearing this cute dress my mom made for me, and it had two little spaghetti straps. I walked out to my car, plopped myself down in the passenger seat, and both of the spaghetti straps came undone,” she told People magazine. “I was 14 and I had nothing to hold the dress up except my arms, so my arms were pinned to my sides for four and a half hours at the prom.”

when Tiffany Haddish In high school, she went to three proms. The first one she went to with a friend of a friend whom she had never met before. She ended up meeting his entire family that night.
“The first prom I went to was with this guy I'd never met before. He was a local girl and she was like, 'Hey, my friend, he wants to go to prom, but he's kind of big,' and I was like, 'I'm going!'” Tiffany recalled. Taylor Lautner He graduated early from high school but still managed to attend prom. He brought an old friend from high school to the event, which was held at a museum in Los Angeles, and says it was a really good experience.
“At my school, we went to prom our junior and senior years. It was fun. I forget where it was, but it was at an art museum in LA. It was really fun. It was a long night. I think it ended around midnight or 1am,” he told TeenMag.com.

In retrospect, her school organized a treasure hunt to find the location of the prom, but during the hunt, her limo broke down on the highway. Thankfully, another friend spotted her date's red velvet smoking jacket and stopped to help.
“So, in the middle of our prom hunt, our limo broke down on the 405. We managed to push it off the freeway into a gas station, and we waited there. My childhood best friend walked by, saw the limo, saw my date in the jacket, and thought, 'Oh, that must be Max. That must be Max and Zoe. Why are they here?' He got off the freeway and took us to the prom in her beat-up Volvo station wagon,” she told Refinery29.

“In eighth grade, me and my best friend made a pinky swear that we were going to prom together instead of with the boys. We were like, 'Forget about the boys! I'm not gonna end up with a boy at prom, but I'll always be best friends,'” she told Seventeen magazine. “I took a disposable camera with me and took loads of pictures while we danced. It was so much fun!”

“The strap of my dress broke and I didn't notice, so my sexy deep V-neck cleavage was visible. My date, Craig Taylor, and I went to a restaurant after the dance…he took me home shortly afterwards. It was just before midnight. I remember how surprised my mom was that I was home so early,” Tyra told People magazine.
