Internet users are slamming the owner of a $400,000 sports car for committing egregious parking violations on the streets of one of the country's wealthiest suburbs.
A Michigan man with a suspended driver's license is being called one of the “world's stupidest criminals” online after attending a court hearing via Zoom while driving.
The video, which showed a Ferrari Roma V8 Coupe half-parked at an angle on the pavement, went viral after it was uploaded to TikTok by the Double Bay Cars account with the video caption “Double Bay's rich problem.”
“And this is how the other half lives… and how they park,” the man filming says, walking around the sports car to show that the two left wheels are resting on the curb.
“That wheel is gone, that wheel is totally gone,” he said, suggesting Ferrari mechanics might be getting a call soon.
“Always amazed,” he wrote in the video's caption.
“They buy Ferraris and luxury cars but have no idea how to drive or park them,” he says.
“With complete disregard for road rules and road signs, this Ferrari has been parked like this for over 3 hours, has even been ticketed and has been driven up the kerb like a truck or pickup. Wheels/rims and part of rear spoiler are damaged. The underside of the car is ripped apart and I would like to know why the car doesn't feel like it's stuck when you have to really accelerate to get it up that high. Good luck getting it off without paying a hefty repair bill.”
The video has been viewed nearly 100,000 times.
“Just because you have money doesn't mean you're smart,” one person commented.
Another person joked: “That's what they do with their money. They think outside the box.”
Others pointed out that it wouldn't be a problem for people who could afford such an expensive car or who live in Double Bay.
“I don't see any point in fining Double Bay residents, it's like the city council threatening us with a 5c fine if we don't park properly,” one person said.
A second person pointed out: “That house is worth $20 million. Half a million is literally worthless. It's like me caring about a used 2006 Toyota Camry.”
According to CoreLogic, the median home price in Double Bay, an ultra-luxury eastern suburb of Sydney, is more than $6.6 million.
Australian Taxation Office data showed Double Bay had the highest average taxable income in 2020-21, at $266,381.
