DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Houston County District Attorney's Office has confirmed that a Dothan businessman committed suicide last month after learning of his impending arrest for allegedly sending sexually explicit letters to a woman.
Houston County Sheriff Russ Goodman told WDHN that Sam Robinson, owner of Dixie Fence Company, committed suicide on May 22 after being shot in his store.
Goodman said shortly before Robinson's death, police obtained 14 arrest warrants for alleged harassing communications for allegedly sending “vulgar” letters to a woman beginning in October 2023. The woman's identity has not been released.
Mr Goodman said the letters, signed by “Red Right Hand” and with a false return address, detailed how Robinson had observed the victim from afar and made several sexually explicit comments to her, but did not include any threats of violence against the victim. A total of 14 letters were sent to the victim.
“Each letter represents one fee,” Goodman said.
The Dothan Police Department began an investigation after the victim filed a report.
Investigators identified Robinson as a suspect after a neighbor's doorbell camera captured his truck driving through the neighborhood, Goodman said.
The district attorney said his office was made aware of the incident and has recommended that investigators seek misdemeanor charges against Robinson.
