EDINBURG, Texas (Valley Central) — The Hidalgo County Elections Department has announced it will be hiring poll workers for the Nov. 5, 2024 presidential election, according to a news release from the county.
On September 1, 2023, SB 924 went into effect, requiring Hidalgo County to secure and acquire a total of 129 polling places on Election Day. This is an increase of 43 locations compared to the 86 polling places the Department of Elections opened on Election Day for the November 8, 2022 general election.
“To fulfill this mandate, our office has secured the necessary number of polling places,” said Election Commissioner Hilda A. Salinas. “While the polling places have been secured, in order to hold and administer the election under the new law,
“Polling officials.”
Salinas noted that the elections department will need a total of 1,170 poll workers for the election operations.
According to the elections department, training for poll workers is mandatory.
To apply, residents must meet the following criteria:
- Be a registered voter in Hidalgo County.
- Attend a poll worker training session (3-4 hours)
election. - Please be ready to work on Election Day, November 5, 2024, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
From 9:00 a.m. to around 9:00 p.m. - Remain nonpartisan and neutral when campaigning.
