(KRON) Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr plans to vote for Joe Biden in November, he said on MSNBC on Monday night.
Kerr cited gun control as a reason for supporting Biden, saying the nine-time NBA champion has been vocal on gun issues in the past and that Biden has promised to implement “common-sense” measures that he supports.
“It's clear that President Biden is interested in implementing gun safety measures, common sense gun violence prevention measures,” he said.
Carr said he has been working with politicians and organizations on gun safety for years, an issue close to home for him, having lost his father to gun violence.
“President Biden has been adamant that he's going to push for commonsense legislation (that protects lives), and I know President Trump won't do that, so it's a really easy choice for me,” he said.
Carr has criticized Trump in the past and was asked whether his decision was a vote for Biden or against Trump.
“I'm voting for Joe Biden,” he replied, “but I think the most important thing to me is that everybody needs to vote according to their conscience. I'm voting on a number of issues, but this is the main one.”
Carr has been outspoken about gun violence in the past, and after the 2022 Uvalde school shooting, he made an impassioned plea for politicians to make changes before leaving the podium at a news conference.
