Well, God, here we are again.
During this past election season
We cried,
We cried out,
We were worried,
We cheered,
We have been ignoring
We spoke what we thought was the “truth.”
We have tried to use every idea and every person for relief.
We forget that you are our Savior.
This time, we are reminded that regardless of the outcome of the election, the work you are calling us to will continue.
nevertheless,
still.
What happens in November matters to real people.
So that's why I'm here.
In front of you.
We remember that the course of history is long and moves toward justice.
We remember the story of kingdoms that rose and fell.
We remember that there was a Jesus who turned the world upside down.
Help us to stabilize our minds, hearts and souls.
A quiet whirlwind rages within our brains and bodies.
Remember:
You will endure beyond this moment.
Your love is beyond our imagination.
We are yours.
And we have a job to do. Your job. For your people and your planet.
Work through us to provide care for the most vulnerable among us.
Work through us to show up in the world in ways that reflect your promises.
Work through us as much as we try.
Bring us together despite our human contradictions.
We know You can do it, for You are the one who brought us together at creation.
Hear our prayers.
Amen.
As people of faith, we must remember that our work of service and service to our communities must continue regardless of the election outcome. Rather than succumbing to feelings of overwhelm or letting fear take hold, we invite you to join us in reflecting on our values and priorities and discerning where we should focus our energies. The Vandersall Collective has created a Day 1 curriculum to guide faith communities through eight weeks of foundation building and preparation leading up to the election.
