Thirty-eight freshmen have been selected to attend the Nebraska Business Honors Academy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this fall. The academy's 12th class comes from seven U.S. states and 13 communities in Nebraska.
“From day one, these talented and capable students will challenge themselves in new and different ways,” said Cathy Farrell, the James Jr. and Susan Stewart Endowed Dean and professor of finance. “They will build on their strengths in and out of the classroom, hone their academic, interpersonal and leadership skills, and prepare to lead in the future of business.”
Freshmen will study nine majors within the College of Business. Students will complete most of the core and foundational business curriculum together using an action-based learning style that focuses on developing critical thinking, technical and communication skills.
“We are thrilled to welcome these students to the Academy,” said Academy Director Erin Burnett. “This group is eager and ready to find unique, impactful ways to contribute positively to the college community and is sure to raise the bar for the Academy, the College of Business and the university as a whole. Our team is incredibly honored to have a front row seat to help these incredible students learn, grow and reach their potential throughout their college careers.”
Freshmen will participate in leadership activities and student competitions held throughout the country to enhance their professional and communication skills, as well as participate in internships and study abroad experiences.
“Our students currently belong to more than 150 student organizations and serve in a variety of important leadership roles,” Barnett said. “This summer, more than half of our students are participating in paid internships across 10 states and two countries. Eight graduating cohorts have taken their talents to careers or graduate schools across 33 states and five countries, and 25 percent of our graduates have gone directly into graduate or professional degree programs. Similarly, we look forward to helping this new cohort succeed professionally and personally.”
The following students will be enrolled in the Nebraska Business Honors Academy for the fall semester of 2024. If a student's high school is different from their hometown, the name of the high school will be listed in parentheses.
