Muted microphones, empty audiences and CNN hosts Dana Bash and Jake Tapper will be a key part of the first presidential debate next week.
The showdown between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump is scheduled for June 27 at 9 pm ET at CNN studios in Atlanta. It will likely be a rematch of the 2020 debate, as independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has officially disqualified.
Both candidates left the Commission on Presidential Debates this year, opting to hold fewer and earlier debates, with another one scheduled for September 10, hosted by ABC.
