Donald Sutherland has died aged 88 but is being remembered by fellow stars.
Sutherland's former girlfriend and former co-star Jane Fonda paid tribute to the legendary actress, who appeared in more than 200 films and TV shows. Fonda wrote on Instagram that she was “stunned to hear that Donald Sutherland has passed away.”
“Donald was a brilliant actor and a complex human being who shared many adventures with me including 'The Vietnam War Show' tour in 1971 before 60,000 active duty soldiers, sailors and Marines in Hawaii, Okinawa, the Philippines and Japan. My heart is broken,” Fonda wrote in a heartfelt post on Instagram.

Fonda and Sutherland's on-screen relationship turned briefly romantic in the 1970s after they starred together in the 1971 film Klute. She called Sutherland a “charming co-star” and said she “loved working with him.”

The versatile Canadian actor's prolific career has spanned roles from playing authority-hating surgeon Hawkeye Pierce in the M*A*S*H films to authoritarian villain President Snow in The Hunger Games series.
On Instagram, Sutherland's M*A*S*H co-star Elliott Gould paid tribute to his “dear and sweet friend,” writing that the Hunger Games star was “an incredible giant not only in physical appearance but in talent as well. He was also an incredibly kind and generous person.”
“Donald and I had sons, born just a week apart, so we were both young fathers at the same time,” Gould continued. “It's never easy losing a person and an actor like Donald Sutherland, but Donald was like a brother to me and was a huge part of my career so this really hurts.”

Sutherland's son, Kiefer Sutherland, who starred in “24” and “Designated Survivor,” posted a personal tribute to his father on social media on Thursday.
“I am sad to announce that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” his son posted on social media on Thursday, along with a black-and-white photo of father and son from Kiefer Sutherland's childhood.
He added: “Personally, I think he's one of the most important actors in the history of cinema. He never flinched from playing good, bad or ugly parts. He loved his job and did what he loved. You couldn't ask for more. It was a life well lived.”
Billy Baldwin remembers Donald Sutherland as “complex, intricate and eccentric”
Actor William “Billy” Baldwin also paid tribute to his former co-star in a lengthy X post, recalling their work together in the films “Backdraft” and “Virus” and the TV series “Dirty Sexy Money.”
“Donald was a complex, intricate, eccentric man in the most fascinating sense; he had a gentle, childlike boyishness about him that I loved,” Baldwin wrote. “His on-screen persona and his character in life were as interesting and original as his features. I need say no more; he was a true original.”
Baldwin called Sutherland “one of a kind” and said, “I've never known anyone quite like him. His many fine qualities, and somehow even his flaws, made him more unique, more fascinating, more lovable.”
