(News Nation) — Wyatt SharpThe 15-year-old Canadian journalist will be covering the first debate of the 2024 U.S. presidential election this week as a correspondent for a Canadian television station.
Sharp, who has gained attention for his interviews with prominent figures including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., began his journalism career at age 11 or 12 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Having the opportunity to speak to all these different people was actually quite useful,” Sharp told NewsNation Now on Sunday. “I don't think that a journalist of average age, six months into their career, would be able to interview someone like, say, a prime minister.”
The boy genius started by publishing his conversations with local officials on YouTube, and his unique position as a young journalist quickly caught the attention of media networks.
Sharp's interest in politics was sparked by the impact the pandemic has had on everyday life, and he aims to provide nonpartisan reporting while addressing what he sees as prevalent political echo chambers in both Canada and the US.
Despite his advanced age, Sharp approaches his work professionally and focuses on crafting useful questions for his interviews with celebrities. He sees his youth as an asset, providing politicians with a unique platform to connect with the younger generation.
