The race in the AI field seems to be never-ending, with Google announcing that it is building new AI-powered chatbots based on celebrities and YouTube influencers.
Interestingly, this idea is not new or original as other tech giants such as Character.ai and Meta have launched similar products in the past. The tech giant has also not revealed anything to us about its reasons for creating these celebrity chatbots.
Talking about different skins of the same product, Google has confirmed that the chatbot will be powered by Gemini's large-scale language model, and is working on allowing users to create their own chatbots by describing their personality and appearance, a feature already achieved with Character.ai.
It's unclear at this point which celebrities and influencers Google plans to partner with, or whether it will try to think outside the box rather than mimicking Meta, which is developing chatbots based on TikTok stars and YouTube celebrities, or Character.ai, which has characters ranging from politicians to philosophers and fictional characters.
Google has also talked about integrating these chatbots into YouTube, similar to Instagram's Meta, but we don't see this coming to fruition, as we believe this is just an experiment that will only be rolled out in Google Labs, and user demand is not all that enthusiastic at the moment.
But we want to know what plans Google has for these chatbots in the future and how users will react to them.
