Biden's aides claim that Biden's suspension was due to a cold. The Democratic candidate's performance was called a “disaster” by online critics after a series of confused and often incoherent responses.
Shortly after their argument finished, CNN's John King said that from the moment Biden opened his mouth, “a tremendous amount of panic began within the Democratic Party.”
“This debate was a game changer in the sense that there is deep, widespread and extremely intense panic within the Democratic Party right now. It began within the first few minutes of the debate and is continuing to this day,” King said. “It involves party strategists, elected officials and fundraisers. They're talking about the president's performance, they think it was disastrous and will hurt the lesser candidates in the party, and they're talking about what to do about it.”

After saying he was keeping his expectations low, Star Wars Actor Mark Hamill praised the president but acknowledged he had a “bad night.”
“One night's events do not change the fact that Joe Biden is the most legislatively successful[President of the United States]of our lifetimes,” Hamill wrote on X. “Nor does one night's events change the fact that this former president is a convicted felon, habitual liar, and rapist unfit to hold any public office. Period.”

“If you understand the language and the perspective, this has been openly manipulated,” Cusack wrote. “Two things should be clear to anyone willing to face reality: Biden will be forced to resign, Kamala Harris cannot beat Trump, and Bernie will beat Trump. So…Newsom will act.”
Maria Shriver, niece of former US President John F Kennedy, called Biden's stage presence “heartbreaking.”
“I love Joe Biden. I know he's a good man. I know he has a good heart. I know he serves his country and is surrounded by good people. Tonight has been a heartbreaking night in so many ways. This is a major political moment. Democrats are panicking. It's going to be a long night,” she said.

Roseanne Barr, an ardent Trump supporter, said she was “sad” to see Biden on Thursday night.
“I'm MAGA and pro-American but I find no joy in this debate. Biden is obviously not here which makes me sad. Obama is sacrificing his friends to push his radical agenda and I don't want anyone celebrating after this,” she wrote on X. “Trump is obviously the better choice but let's use this moment to pray for our country instead.”
In the post-debate analysis, The Daily Show Host Jon Stewart said:He criticized both participants, saying, “That can't happen in real life.”
“After watching tonight's debate, I would say these two should be on performance-enhancing drugs!” Stewart said. “They should take as many as they can, as many times a day as their bodies will allow. If it improves their clarity, their problem-solving abilities, and, as in the case of one of the candidates, their integrity, their moral character and their malignant narcissism, then no suppositories. They should take whatever magic brain booster pill they can, because this isn't Olympic swimming.”
