Megan Thee Stallion is finally on her own. The rapper is releasing her latest album, self-titled Meganmarks a special new chapter in her career. A record deal brought her to superstardom, but she says it just wasn't for her; she's an independent musician, to say the least, and things are going well for her.
The Grammy Award winner recently Club Shay Shay Speaking to the podcast about her new album and her friendship with Beyoncé, the chart-topping singer spoke about what she's learned from the powerful vocalist and the threats she's made to her friends.
“I used to be the queen of cognac,” Stallion began, talking about her business and her past as a drinker, “but even though I enjoyed cognac and promoted a lot of people's alcohol brands, she was like, 'Next time we meet, have your own alcoholic beverage,'” she said of Beyoncé.
Of course, if Beyoncé tells you to do something, you're going to jump into action. Stallion hasn't revealed her plans to take over the alcohol industry just yet, but according to her podcast interview, it sounds like she might be on the verge of starting something big.
Stallion praised both Beyoncé and Jay-Z, saying she feels they “definitely gave me the opportunity to learn how to be my own boss.” Not only has she spoken about branching out into the alcohol industry, but the hip-hop talent is now in her own career.
Stallion apparently went through a period of anxiety when she realized she'd need to get out of contract with her label, but Beyoncé and Jay convinced her to see it through. “They told me, 'You have to do this on your own,'” she said of her conversations with the power couple.
Stallion revealed that they told her, “You already know what it's about. You already have all the tools,” which gave her the confidence that she could continue to soar in the cutthroat music industry without the backing of a company. They reportedly told her that she needed to “figure out how to get out here and be her own boss,” which is exactly what she did.
Megan The album was preceded by three singles, all of which charted in the Top 40 of the Hot 100. The third, “Hiss,” debuted at No. 1, giving the rapper not only a new champion on the list of America's most-consumed songs, but also the first independent artist to reach the top spot.
Beyoncé and Stallion have shared two Grammy Awards together: in 2020, she won both Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for her remix of “Savage,” which hit No. 1 on the Hot 100; Stallion also appears in Beyoncé's concert film. Renaissance: The Beyoncé Movie.
