Days after the assassination attempt, Donald Trump has indicated he will speak at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin this week.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump thanked people for their “thoughts and prayers” in the wake of the attack and said he looked forward to speaking “to the people of our great country from Wisconsin this week.”
“Now more than ever it is important that we come together, show our true American character, remain strong and determined, and do not let evil win,” he added.
Thousands of Republicans are scheduled to arrive in Milwaukee on Monday for the kickoff of four days of election events during which Trump and his yet-to-be-announced running mate will be formally nominated by the party.
This follows what the FBI has designated an assassination attempt on the former president.
Trump was speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday when shots rang out and he was surrounded by Secret Service agents.
The former president soon emerged, blood coming out of his ears, and pumped his fist at the crowd.
In another post on Truth Social, Trump said the bullet “went through” the top of his right ear and thanked the Secret Service for their quick response.
The FBI later identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks was killed at the rally.
“The FBI has not determined a motive at this time, but investigators are working actively to determine a motive,” FBI Special Agent Kevin Rojek said at a press conference.
Authorities said one spectator was killed and two others were seriously injured in the incident.
