MILWAUKEE (WKBT) – The Heritage Foundation, the group behind Project 2025, is handing out pamphlets at the Republican National Convention.
But what is Project 2025?
In a more than 900-page document, conservative leaders outlined policy recommendations for the next Republican president and a plan for how they would implement those policies.
“This project expresses what the vast majority of Americans feel and believe,” said Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation.
The agenda focuses on concentrating power in the hands of the president and proposes controversial policies such as abolishing the Department of Education and prosecuting people who send abortion pills by mail.
“Project 2025 is an extraordinary document because it details how not only Trump but the entire MAGA extremist coalition plans to use their power to take away our liberties if they return to the presidency,” said Ben Wikler, chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party.
Democrats have vigorously attacked the project, seeking to link it to former President Trump, who has said he has no knowledge of it and posted on Truth Social that he “knows nothing about it.”
Although the Heritage Foundation has denied President Trump's involvement in the project, at least 140 former Trump administration officials were reportedly involved in some way with Project 2025.
“Democrats are trying to blame Donald Trump because they have no reason to blame him,” said Rep. Tom Tiffany (Wisconsin's 7th District).
Wikler argues that if Trump is re-elected, Project 2025 would be easy to implement.
“Most Republican activists and elected officials would agree that Trump is not a stickler for detail, but he decides who runs the details of governing. And Project 2025 is a blueprint for the MAGA establishment written for the people who worked for him last time and are preparing to work for him again if he returns to the White House.”
