The 2024 Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee on Monday, just days after presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt. Trump is scheduled to address delegates on the convention's final day, Thursday.
“President Trump looks forward to meeting you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him as the 47th president of the United States,” the Republican National Committee and the Trump campaign said in a joint statement on Saturday. “As our party's nominee, President Trump will continue to share his vision for Making America Great Again.”
The former president was shot in the right ear in an assassination attempt on Saturday at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, by a gunman identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Spectator Corey Comperatore was killed and two others were wounded. The gunman was shot and killed by Secret Service agents moments after shots rang out.
The historic moment of shocking political violence put the country on edge and transformed the Games from a routine political ritual into a landmark event.

Nikki Haley has been added to our speaker list
Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina governor and Trump rival, is now expected to speak at the convention, though she was not initially scheduled to speak or attend the event after coming runner-up to Trump in this year's Republican primary.
Details about Haley's attendance at the convention are currently limited, but a person familiar with the convention planning told USA Today on Sunday that she is currently on the speaker list.
During the Republican primary, Ms Haley angered Mr Trump by staying on the campaign trail longer than she would have liked, and as Mr Trump's ambassador to the United Nations she also frequently criticised him, drawing abuse in return.
