(NEXSTAR) — One of the biggest stories at this week's Republican National Convention was former President Donald Trump's selection of Ohio Rep. J.D. Vance as his running mate.
Vance's supporters include Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who quickly endorsed him when he ran for Congress.
“I'm very proud of J.D. Vance,” Greene told Nexstar at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, “I was the first senator to endorse him when he ran for Senate, so I know him really well and I'm very excited about him.”
Not everyone agrees with Greene, who has previously called Trump a “total fraud,” “a moral catastrophe” and “the American Hitler,” raising doubts about her being added to Trump's shortlist.
Still, Green hasn't lost hope for Vance.
“I'm happy that people are changing their minds about President Trump,” she explained. “We're Americans, we have the right to change our minds. He's changed his mind about President Trump in his first four years in office, and that's a great thing.”
Green added that he is “ideologically completely aligned with me.”
“I'm very excited about JD,” she said.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) echoed similar sentiments in a conversation with Nexstar earlier this week.
“I'm going to miss losing him as a colleague,” Johnson told Nexstar's Chip Brewster. “He's highly intelligent, highly eloquent, has a great life story and was a true ally in the United States Senate. President Trump had a wealth of talent to choose from.”
