Democratic front-runner Kamala Harris has attracted record numbers of Zoom attendees to a series of celebrity-studded fundraisers, raising millions of dollars in donations, according to The Hollywood Reporter..
The Zoom call began on Sunday and more than 44,000 Black women tuned in to drum up support for Harris' historic presidential bid. The call garnered attention from celebrities like actresses Yvette Nicole Brown and Jenifer Lewis, and raised more than $1.5 million for the Harris campaign. The campaign followed a separate call featuring 50,000 Black men, as well as a massive fundraising Zoom call featuring white women, LGBTQ+ people, South Asian allies, and more.
On Thursday night, about 100,000 people joined a call to recruit white women to support Harris, but the call was so choppy that it tested the limits of Zoom. Those who were booted off Zoom opted to watch the livestream on YouTube, where more than 25,000 supporters also joined the call, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The call, which raised more than $1.8 million, also featured celebrities such as Katie McGrath, Connie Britton and Pink.
“When Biden dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Kamala Harris, the world exploded. Did you feel it? It was seismic, it was cosmic, it was even bigger than us. It was definitely bigger than us,” Britton, who stars in the NBC drama series “Friday Night Lights,” said in a conference call. report.
The South Asian call included actress and comedian Mindy Kaling, and the LGBTQ+ call included George Takei, Zachary Quinto, Raven-Symone, Sophia Bush, Ashlyn Harris, Brian Michael Smith, Justin Tranter.
Tranter, who co-wrote Chappell Lawn's “Good Luck Babe,” has pledged to donate $20,000 on his own.
