Sesan Adelabu, an oil and gas trader, committed suicide over the weekend, shortly after brutally killing his wife, Bol, in Akure, Ondo State.
Popular socialite Adelabu, popularly known as 'Emirati', committed the dastardly act after he allegedly caught his wife cheating.
The deceased, who owns several petrol stations in the state, committed the crime at his home in an upscale area of Alagbaka, Akure.
After killing his wife, Adelabu allegedly drove away from home to buy a deadly insecticide known as Sniper.
Upon returning home, he drank the substance, after which he also died.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya, confirmed the development and disclosed that the Homicide Wing of the State Criminal Investigation Department would take over the case.
“A police officer who was attending the deceased at his home in Alagbaka area of Akure received a call from the deceased child at around 6pm inquiring about the welfare of his father.
“When he did not answer the phone, police officers tried to inform the principal and found him face down in the bathroom, lifeless. Meanwhile, his wife's body was found on the bed, with a machete on her head. There were multiple cuts that appeared to have been caused by injuries caused by injuries to the face.
“An empty container containing a sniper was also found at the scene.”
According to police, the bodies of the deceased couple were placed in the mortuary.
