A local oil magnate is selling his custom-built home in Cherry Creek for $4.3 million.
The 5,980-square-foot home at 428 St. Paul Street was listed on Oct. 25.
Bill Barrett, founder of the energy company Bill Barrett Corporation (rebranded after the merger), bought the property with his late wife Louise in 2007 for $1.2 million and later transferred it to a trust, according to property records. .
Compass listing agent Jeff Hendry said Barrett has not lived in the home in years, although it is occupied. Records show that Barrett and his late wife also purchased the adjoining property at 444 St. Paul St. for $4.1 million in 2006, but that home is not for sale.
The four-bedroom, six-bathroom home for sale was custom built in 2009 by John J. Lewis of Clearwater LLC. It features three main suites, a huge second-floor deck that “can easily accommodate groups of 30,” underfloor heating throughout, and elevator access to all three floors, according to the listing.
“First of all, I think it's on one of the best streets in Cherry Creek North,” Hendry said. “There are beautiful trees along the block and it’s a good distance from the hustle and bustle of the city.”
Mr. Barrett founded Bill Barrett in 2002 after his former energy company, Barrett Resources, was acquired by Williams Companies. Bill Barrett Corp. went public in his 2004 year, and Mr. Barrett stepped down as his CEO in 2006, and was succeeded by his son Fred.
In 2017, Bill Barrett Corporation merged with Fifth Creek Energy in a deal valued at $649 million and was renamed Highpoint Resources Corporation, which later merged with Denver-based Bonanza Creek Energy did.
