Jennifer Garner is mourning the death of her father, William John Garner, who passed away over Easter weekend.
The actress revealed her father's death in a touching tribute posted on Instagram on Monday. Her cause of death has not been disclosed.
“My father passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon,” Garner wrote alongside a nostalgic photo of father and daughter. “We stayed with him and sang Amazing Grace as he left us (did we carry him across or did we scare him away? (That's a valid question.) There's nothing tragic about the death of an 85-year-old man who lived a wonderful, healthy life, but I do know that sadness inevitably awaits us at unexpected turns in life. I know.”
She added: “Today is a day of gratitude.”
Several of Garner's celebrity friends offered their condolences in the comments section of her post.
Julianne Moore wrote: “I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️.”

Jennifer Garner remembers father William Garner's 'quiet strength'
Garner's eulogy for her father included a series of family photos from her childhood. The “Family Switch” star also shared an adorable clip of William John crashing an interview with brand partner Capital One.
“We are grateful for our father's kind demeanor and quiet strength,” Garner wrote in a lengthy caption. “For him teasing with his mischievous smile and for inventing the role of the ever-patient father of the girls. We are grateful for his work ethic, leadership and conviction.”

Garner also thanked William John at Charleston Regional Medical Center and City of Hope for his treatment, which allowed his father to live longer, allowing him to be surrounded by his daughter and grandchildren and cheering on his beloved Aggies. He said he was given time to be in his father's favorite places, including serving as a captain. Next to him was his boat and most importantly, his wife of 59 years, our mother. ”
“There's so much to say about my dad. My sisters and I will never finish talking about how great he was. Please bear with me,” Garner concluded. “But today, we share these memories not only for the loving legacy he left behind, but also in gratitude for the kind and intelligent man, father and grandfather he was.”
