A country club employee went viral after sharing his observations about the behaviors that set rich people apart from others, even some of their wealthy peers.
TikTok user Bella Dane (@spicybells) posted a video on this topic on August 15th. As of Friday, it had been viewed more than 12 million times.
“Here's how to look richer than you really are,” Dane began the clip. She explained that she had recently started working at a country club that attracted “new money” and “old money” members. Mr Dane said there were “obvious” differences between the two groups, and then began making observations about how people with old money typically behaved.
@spicybells These are just my opinions based on what I noticed. #Wealth #Wealth #MindsetWealth ♬ Original song – Bella Dane
First, the Old Money group “always” introduced themselves by first and last name and offered a “proud, firm handshake.”
The content creator then observed how older rich people tend to “speak slowly, confidently, and calmly,” although not always. Still, she said, they usually “don't rush to end the conversation,” adding, “Most of them seem to be really good listeners.”
Next was fashion. Most old rich people “don't wear things like big brand logos plastered all over their wallets and belts,” Dane noted. “Money speaks, wealth is silent.'' In fact, these people tend to wear clothes that are “very stylish,'' and “well-made,'' without brand logos.
Additionally, Dane observed that wealthy people typically have a “sophisticated palette” and are more knowledgeable about food and alcohol. But that doesn't stop them from ordering “nachos and more.”
Dain said wealthy people “never touch their phones” when entering the market. “They always make sure that the room is ready and tidy before they enter the room.” She said they typically enter the space with their “chins up,” looking around and smiling. He added.
Additionally, she said, they tend to be “very interactive with the bartenders and staff.” The “really, really wealthy'' members are “always kind.''
Viewers in the comments section agreed with the TikToker's observation.
“Old money is quiet. New money is loud!” one commenter wrote.
“I literally worked at that company this summer and wow! The way they carried themselves was shocking,” a second commenter also shared.
Additionally, some have suggested why old money behaves this way.
“BC, their last name has power. Like Vanderbilt or something,” one user commented.
“Think what she's describing about old money is being a generally decent human being at the end of the day. Unfortunately that's not that common in this generation,” a second said. the person added.
