jakarta. National Democratic Party (Nasdem) Party Central Executive Committee Chairman Willie Aditya has announced the Constitutional Court's ruling on the 2024 presidential election dispute involving Anees Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Dr. Ganjar Pranowo-Mohammad Mahfud. I promised to respect it.
“We will respect any decision the court makes,” Willy said Monday at Jakarta's Nasdem Tower.
Willy emphasized that Nasdem is working with Anies, the Prosperity and Justice Party (PKS), and the National Awakening Party (PKB) in contesting the results of the presidential election. He noted that a delegation from Nasdem, including Secretary-General Helmawi Taslim and Central Executive Committee Chairman Tawfik Basari, has joined Mr. Agnes Chak Imin's legal team.
Both Mr. Anis and Mr. Ganjar have alleged that the winner of the election, Prabowo Subianto, received unfair advantage from President Joko Widodo's government with tacit support. Prabowo, who won 58% of the vote, chose the president's son, Gibran Rakabumin Raka, as his running mate.
Rivals say the government will step up distribution of social assistance ahead of the Feb. 14 vote in a bid to sway voters, and law enforcement and other state agencies to influence voters in Prabowo's favor. He claims to have used . Questions have been raised about the legitimacy of Gibran's candidacy as Prabowo's running mate.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati vehemently rejected the allegations. He said the social assistance program was included in the national budget approved by the government and the House of Representatives on October 16, 2023, before the announcement of presidential candidates by the General Election Commission.
Sri Mulyani claimed that “the formulation of the national budget for 2024 and its enactment into law were not influenced by the consideration of presidential and vice-presidential candidates.”
The Constitutional Court will announce its ruling on the issue of the 2024 presidential election on April 22nd. The court will convene a panel of judges starting April 16 to discuss, draft, and finalize the issues.
