BeReal just released another feature that seems to defeat the purpose of the app: a celebrity-only feed. Instead of swapping photos with your friends every day, you can find out what the world's top athletes, artists, and activists are up to.
BeReal, an app that touts “real friends,” lets you take selfies and full-frontal photos to share with your friends at different times each day. The aim of the app is to share with your friends what you're doing randomly, even when you're doing something boring like lying in bed or sitting in front of your computer at work.
But now, BeReal is letting strangers into its loop. The new feed, called RealPeople, is “a timeline of the world's most interesting people,” featuring “an ever-changing collection” of famous people from around the world. The whole aim of the feature is to show that celebrities are just regular people like us (yes, they're just regular people). Really).
“RealPeople isn't about influence, getting likes or comments, or promoting brands,” BeReal writes. “You won't find photoshopped photos, product recommendations, or ads disguised as posts. We're just trying to show you that we're all more similar than we think.”
The app is currently only testing the feature in the UK. discovery Press the tab Real People. From here, you can react to posts with your RealMoji as you scroll through your timeline, hide posts, report posts, and more. BeReal also says you can recommend someone (or yourself) to your RealPeople timeline through this form, though it's unclear if users already have them lined up in their BeReal feed.
