A new list reveals America's richest people in 2023, and more than a dozen of them are from Illinois.
According to a Forbes report titled “America's 400 Richest People,” 13 of the world's richest people are from the Prairie states. You may not remember all the names, but some will definitely stand out.
Illinois' top ranking member was Lucas Walton, with a net worth of $24.2 billion. Walton, 37, is the grandson of Walmart founder Sam Walton, the report said. Overall, Walton ranked 31st on the list.
Walton was also ranked 74th on Forbes magazine's “World's Richest People'' list released earlier this year.
According to the list, the second richest person in Illinois is Patrick Ryan, who comes in 70th place with a net worth of $10.1 billion. Ryan, 86, is the CEO and founder of Ryan Specialty Group, a Chicago-based wholesale brokerage and specialty insurance company, according to Forbes.

No.184: Mark Walter, 63, $5.7 billion — CEO of investment firm Guggenheim Partners

No.192: Joe Mansueto, 67, $5.6 billion — Founds independent investment research firm Morningstar
No.192 (tie): Thomas Pritzker, 73, $5.6 billion — one of 11 billionaire heirs to the Pritzker family and currently executive chairman of Hyatt Hotels
No.227: Elizabeth Uihlein, 78, $4.9 billion — President of Uihlein, a major distributor of transportation, packaging and industrial products.
No.227 (tie): Richard Uihlein, 78, $4.9 billion — President of Uihlein
No.267: Eric Levkosky, 54, $4.3 billion — Founder of Groupon
No.273: Joseph Glendies, 61, $4.2 billion — Chief executive officer and president of Koch Foods, a poultry processor that slaughters, ships and sells chicken under its own and private brands.
No.326: JB Pritzker, 58, $3.5 billion — Governor of Illinois
No.345: Penny Pritzker, 64, $3.3 billion — investor and one of 11 Pritzker heirs to become billionaire
Former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan also made the list, becoming the first athlete to make the list of richest Americans. Jordan, 60, who has a net worth of $3 billion, currently lives in Florida. He was ranked 379th on the list.
Earlier this year, Jordan sold a majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets for about $3 billion.
