How does Raya work?
Befitting its exclusivity (or snobbism, depending on how you look at it), the app is only available for Apple IOS (not for Android users). Users sign up by entering their basic details (name, occupation, Instagram handle) and are then prompted to share details of a friend already registered with Raya who will act as a referee.
According to Gendelman, the selection process is left to a secret group of “500 trusted members who vote on every application.” No wonder it's so hard to get in!
How much does Raya cost?
So, what celebrities are starring in Raya?
When the app was first released, celebrities like Trevor Noah, Kelly Osbourne, and Raven-Symoné all said they were using the platform, according to ET. Since then, other celebrities' names have surfaced, either by their own admissions or after being “exposed” by other users. However, disclosing who's on the platform is a big no-no for members, as they risk being kicked out if found out.
According to UsWeekly, Channing Tatum, John Mayer, Niall Horan of One Direction, and Joe Jonas have all been “spotted” on the app, along with Lizzo, playerWith Liza Kosi Selling Sunset's Emma Hernan have all publicly acknowledged their participation.
Will people really find love with Raya?
So far, at least three celebrity couples are known to have met on the app: comedian Amy Schumer and her husband Ben Hanisch, according to Us Weekly, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and NFL player Jonathan Owens, and singer Lily Allen and actor David Harbour, according to The Independent.
How can I enrol at Raya?
Considering that only 8% of applicants are accepted (more rigorous than Harvard Business School, as The New York Times points out), don't get your hopes up too high, but it's not impossible: Many sources report long wait times, anywhere from months to years, before you're granted admission.
Contrary to rumors, a New York Times article noted that having a large Instagram following isn't a prerequisite for admission, but being too flashy will likely disappoint you. “A lot of applicants just have Lamborghinis and yachts and private jets, and we're just like, 'See you later,'” Gendelman told the paper. Other factors that could help you, according to the article, include having dozens of friends already in your network on the app and being well-respected in your field.
