Eddie Murphy is recalling a memorable conversation he had with the late Marlon Brando.
In a newly released excerpt from the chat, The New York Times Podcasts interviewMurphy said he once visited Brando at his home after his first film role in the 1982 film “Star Wars: Episode I: Golden Wind.” 48 hoursthe actor told him he was not a fan of Clint Eastwood.
“A long time ago, he said to me, 'I can't stand that kid with the gun,' and I said, 'Who's the kid with the gun?' And he said, 'He's on the poster!'” Murphy, 63, recalled.
“I said, 'Clint Eastwood?' He said, 'Yeah, that guy!' He called Clint Eastwood 'that kid,'” she added. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Star.
Notably, Brando, who died in 2004 at the age of 80, was just six years older than Eastwood, who just celebrated his 94th birthday in May.
A representative for Eastwood did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
According to Murphy, their meeting at Brand's home was the second time the pair had spent time together – the first was at the rooftop restaurant of the luxury L'Ermitage hotel in Los Angeles.
And the impact of those moments remains with Murphy to this day. “Famous people that I grew up watching on TV wanted to have dinner with me,” he recalls. 48 hoursMarlon Brando called my agent and said he wanted to meet me.”

“I look back now and I'm like, 'Wow, that's amazing. The greatest actor of all time wants to have dinner with you!'” Murphy continued on the podcast. “But at the time, I was just like, 'Well, that's how it goes. You do a movie and Marlon Brando gets a call.'”

But Brand took the praise in stride. “He said, 'Eh? The Godfather.' but also The Godfather “He said, 'Acting is stupid — anyone can act,'” Murphy said.
The two-time Oscar winner has been the subject of much controversy over the years, and he'll soon be played in a film by Billy Zane.
