Barnes & Thornburg was selected by Lawyers of Color for the 2023 Industry Leader Diversity Award, which was presented May 18 at a reception in Washington, DC. Our firm was recognized for meeting all three of his criteria for the Law Firm Diversity Award:
- At least one staff member whose job title includes the words “equity,” “diversity,” or “inclusion.”
- At least one lawyer of color as managing partner, executive/management committee member, or practice group head
- At least 4 percent of lawyers are black.
Barnes & Thornburg has a dedicated team of three dedicated to advancing the company's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Long-time active equity partner Dawn R. Rosemond serves as a solid diversity partner, and DEI director Brittany is leading the way in this regard along with Lee and his DEI analyst Adler Allwaters.
In addition to the DEI team, there is a firm-wide DEI committee co-chaired by the firm's diversity and managing partner, Andrew Detherage, as well as seven additional talent resource groups to provide support, community and belonging for the firm's talent from underrepresented backgrounds. Thirteen attorneys of color serve on management committees or hold leadership roles in practice groups or departments. “We are thrilled to have been selected as a recipient of the Lawyers of Color 2023 Industry Leader Diversity Award. This award and recognition criteria reflect years of hard work, but we are not done yet. No,” Rosemond said. “Retaining and promoting a diverse workforce is our focus, because our DEI efforts are not authentic if the people we hire don’t stay and advance.”
