When it comes to red carpet underwear, stars stick to what works – literally.
Whether they choose a nude dress or a plunging neckline, celebrities often opt for stick-on bras, like nipple covers, instead of traditional bras.
Just ask Kate Hudson, who pulled a pair from her bag for British Vogue's “In the Bag” series in early 2023. [them] I take them everywhere because I don't like bras.”
It's unclear which pair she owns, but just like her, Pasty is also a favourite with celebrity stylists such as Jennifer Austin, who works with stars like Angela Bassett.
“My go-to covering when getting clients ready for their big red carpet moment is B-Six's Nippies Skin,” she told Page Six Style of the brand's Nippies Skin Adhesive Nipple Covers ($26).
What I like about this brand is [that its] “It comes in five different coverage colors so you can choose the one that best suits your skin tone,” she explains, “and in different thicknesses for those who need even more coverage!”
Zerina Akers, a stylist who works with A-list stars like Beyoncé and Megan Thee Stallion, says she chooses Lace by Tanaya Lace Café's silicone nipple covers ($25) or Nue Breast Tape ($25) because “the stretchy lift tape is perfect for cut-out dresses.”
Looking for something more traditional? Both stylists also praised Fashion Forms' adhesive bras, which offer a variety of styles from the Seamless Backless Adhesive Push-Up Bra ($60) to the Plunge Seamless Wireless Bra ($34).
“My favourite adhesive bras are definitely from Fashionforms! They support you beautifully and stay put while you dance the night away!” Austin added.
You don't need an invitation to the Met Gala or a nomination for an awards ceremony to stay stylish and popular like a star. Below, we'll show you some of Hollywood's favorite style solutions that you can wear under your favorite party looks.
“RHONY” star Jessel Turnke said she's been keeping the adhesive bra on hand since becoming a mother, instead of traditional bras, which “make your breasts look too full.”
“It literally lifts your entire chest for an unreal, seamless look – you can wear whatever you want and feel extremely supported,” the fashion spokesperson adds of the style solution, “giving you a shape you can't get any other way.”
She's not the only New York-based Bravole who swears by the stick-on styling hack: OG RHONY cast member Dorinda Medley said she “can't put down” the tape.
“This product makes any dress look amazing, any cleavage look amazing…it tightens and pushes up. [and] “Push it together,” added the star, who taped up Sonja Morgan's swimsuit during an episode of the reunion show “RHONY: Legacy.” (“I feel like I just had a $1,000 surgery,” Morgan exclaimed.)
Jamie Chung told The Strategist in 2021 that she always keeps a pair of the shoes in her bag.
“One of the things I've noticed during quarantine is that I hate wearing a bra,” she says. “These silicone nipple covers give me that extra protection when I just want a little bit of coverage. My clothes tend to fall apart at work, and these covers keep me covered.”
Celebrity stylist Andrew Gelwicks, who has graced the red carpet for stars like Catherine O'Hara, told Vogue in 2021 that he's a fan of NuBra.
“NuBra offers a wide range of strapless bras in a variety of colors and materials,” he says, “and my clients always swear by Silicone Putty when they're wearing tricky see-through dresses.”
Celebrity stylist Kate Young, who has worked with Selena Gomez and Margot Robbie, listed them as one of her “favorite accessories” in a 2014 interview with Allure magazine.
She also listed some of her favorite bras to Page Six Style for 2023, saying the kit also includes “strapless or convertible” styles, like Wacoal's Red Carpet Strapless Bra ($76).
