There are plenty of celebrity couples we never imagined would get together, but the ones that really leave us scratching our heads are those with opposing political views. For those not in such a relationship, it may be hard to imagine how that works. If your core values determine your political stance, there's bound to be at least some overlap with your partner's worldview. But recently, celebrity couples have come forward to say that it's possible to build a long-term relationship with someone you don't agree with. From exes like Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers to married couples like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, it's possible. very It will be interesting to see what these stars had to say.

Let's take a closer look at the first example of a controversial ex-lover: Woodley and Rogers. Woodley is known for her Emmy-nominated work on the pair. Big Little Lies Rogers has previously been an outspoken political activist whose values align with those of the Democratic Party, particularly on environmental issues, but he has come under fire for his anti-vaccination stance, criticism of President Biden and comments about the 2020 election that strongly suggest he leans toward the Republican Party.
There's still a lot we don't know about this couple's relationship, but it's hard to imagine them getting along when they're so outspoken and have such opposing beliefs. But according to a People source, they simply “agree to disagree” when it comes to politics, and it works.

A source spoke to People magazine in 2022, claiming that Shailene Woodley and her then-fiancé Aaron Rodgers had an “agree to disagree” approach when it came to personal politics.
“They didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things and decided early on to acknowledge that they didn't see eye to eye and not have any arguments,” the source said, adding that while Woodley has used her platform to highlight her activism, “Aaron hasn't tried because he's not the kind of person to change his mind.”
The couple split in 2022 after two years together.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been together for over 40 years, but they seem to have one major difference between them: their politics.
While Russell is a proud libertarian, Horn does not share the same views. In fact, in a 2024 episode of SiriusXM, Conan O'Brien needs a friend Via People magazine, she said, “We don't agree on everything. His political views are different than mine. You know, there are a lot of things we could disagree on. But the one thing we have, the greatest thing in God's world, is our family.”
“That's where we thrive, where we feel incredible joy, and where we can really focus,” she added.

Many factors conspired to lead Kardashian to file for divorce from West in February 2021, but there are indications that his failed presidential campaign may have been one of them.

Kellyanne Conway has been a longtime supporter of Donald Trump and served in his administration, while her husband, George Conway, has always been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration. While we may not know the full extent of the couple's marriage during those pivotal four years, it was clear that there was some tension. When her husband spoke out against President Trump in 2019, Conway told Fox Business, “I grew up in a household of Italian Catholic women, and we were taught that disagreements should be expressed in private.”
They filed for divorce in 2023.

Carville is a longtime Democrat and political strategist who worked with the Clintons on former President Bill Clinton's first campaign. Matalin is a Republican strategist who worked on George H. W. Bush's unsuccessful reelection campaign. She switched political affiliations to the Libertarian Party in 2016. The two married in 1993 and have two daughters.

While many know that Demi Moore and Bruce Willis were married from 1987 to 2000, what many may not know is that they have very different political stances. While neither of them often talks about who they support, we've found a few clues.
For example, in 2016, The Hollywood Reporter discovered a mix-up and mistakenly listed Moore as an independent, even though she had always identified as a Democrat. “Demi Moore is not, and never has been, a member of the American Independent Party,” she told The Times, via the same outlet.
Willis has switched between Democrat and Republican parties over the years and has supported both Democratic and Republican candidates in the past, but in 2006 he said, “I'm only a Republican insofar as I want small government,” according to NBC.

Remember when Alan Thicke and Kristy Swanson were dating? Yep, we hate to relive this because he was approaching his 40s by the time she started dating him at 17. They dated from 1987 to 1989 and then got engaged, but eventually broke up in 1991.
Now, in addition to the extremely inappropriate age difference, they had another big difference: their political affiliations.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, before his death in 2016, Thicke was known as a Democrat and an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton. In the article, Thicke called for the use of social media in anti-Trump protests. “That's how Trump got elected. Let's use those tools to say, 'Join us. Here's our website. We are Citizens Against Muslim Registry. We are Citizens Against the Wall. And let's get enough signatures, let's get enough attention,' but without clogging up the highway,” he said.
Swanson is one of Hollywood's biggest supporters of Donald Trump. Not only has she tweeted her love for Trump on multiple occasions, but she has also bragged about meeting him. Swanson is very proud to be a Republican, admitting as much in 2017, saying she has “always been a proud Republican.”

This probably won't come as a complete surprise, but former married couple Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan have very different political views. The two dated for three years before marrying in February 1991 and divorcing in 2001.
Quaid is a Republican and supports Trump. Dennis previously told Piers Morgan: “He's [Trump] It makes sense. People may call him an idiot, but he's my idiot.”
Ryan is a Democrat and has reportedly donated nearly $10,000 to Democratic politicians, including Al Franken, John Kerry, and Barack Obama.

Lopez famously endorsed Joe Biden in 2020, according to Heavy.
But what about Rodriguez? According to the Washington Examiner, Rodriguez has donated about $10,000 to Republican presidential candidates John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.
