“Who is Fred?”
It can be group chats, online forums, or even mamma mia In the office, good old Fred is in the country now and thinks the young people are going crazy.
Gen Z and some Millennials know who he is, but I digress.
Lately, the British DJ, music producer, and singer has made it big on TikTok and completely dominated the dance music scene. And now he's not only breaking into the mainstream, but establishing himself with sold-out raves in Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland's Surfers Paradise.
As a fellow Gen Zer, I'm happy to announce some facts about why everyone is suddenly obsessed with Fred Again. And why you should too.
So who exactly is Fred Again?
got it. Let's get started. Fred Again is a musician born in South London. He produces his EDM music (electronic dance music) and is the absolute king on the DJ decks.
He has been in the industry for quite some time, working and producing under his real name Fred Gibson with artists such as Charli XCX, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, and K-pop band BTS. I'll list a few.
According to a recent profile interview, music has always been his biggest goal.
Fred attended Marlborough College, London, a boarding school in Wiltshire. It has some pretty famous (and gorgeous) alumni, including Kate Middleton, Pippa Middleton, Princess Eugenie, and Jack Whitehall.
However, his focus “rarely shifted from the music.”talk to guardianhe said he would skip lessons in favor of spending time in the music room.
It certainly worked to his advantage.
according to tabIn 2019, almost 30 per cent of number one singles in the UK charts were produced by him.
And in 2020, Fred won Best Producer at the Brit Awards.
“The messages I read from people said how much it costs [the albums] My life has changed for them,” he said. guardian.
Fast forward to the present, Fred launched his solo career in 2020 under the performance name 'Fred Again' before breaking into Gangbuster. This 30-year-old musician has captivated techno and dance music lovers, especially his Generation Z.
In mid-2022, the DJ gave his debut performance at London's Boiler Room, and tickets sold like hotcakes.
For context, Boiler Room is a UK-based online music broadcasting and promotion platform, and Fred Again's set quickly became one of the most-watched performances on the platform. (That's despite the fact that he had never been on tour before the performance.)
And this month, he's making waves again.
After playing in Australia for the first time in August 2023, he wrote online: “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this game insane.
“I definitely don't take for granted the fact that I'm going to be on a plane for over a day and there are still people on the other side who want to dance to this music. I'm so angry. , very strange, very so.” ”
And after his latest show in this country, he was once again praising the Australians.
“Then why should I care?”you may be asking yourself. And that, my friends, is perfectly fair.
But if you happen to find yourself chatting with a Gen Z or teenager and the conversation is getting a little (a lot) rut, throw in a statement about Fred Again and make their little innocent eyes light up. Please take a look.
One TikTok user said: “I go to bed one night and wake up and suddenly feel like everyone is obsessed with this guy named Fred.”
yes. she's right. We are now obsessed with a guy named Fred.
If you're looking to step into the world of EDM, Fred Again is the place to be.
